The Name’s Bond, James Bond!
Updated: Jul 11
James Bond, 007 has been with us since 1962. He is a fictional character created by Ian Fleming in his novel Casino Royal in 1953. This iconic British Secret Service agent has been with us ever since, firstly in print and later on the big screen. Ian Fleming wrote 12 novels, all of which have now been turned into films but certainly not in the same order as the books. The first film Dr. No was released in 1962 and the latest No Time to Die hit our screens in 2021.
The role has been played by several actors:
Sean Connery (1962–1967, 1971 and 1983) 7 films
David Niven (1967) 1 film
George Lazenby (1969) 1 film
Roger Moore (1973-1985) 7 films
Timothy Dalton (1987-1989) 2 films
Pierce Brosnan (1995-2002) 4 films
Daniel Craig (2006-2021) 5 films
Opinions differ as to which actor made the best Bond, each one adding his own magic, skill and personal interpretation to the role. Of course, the role is enhanced by the supporting actors and as always, the latest Bond girl!
The James Bond movies have thrilled the cine going public for almost 60 years. Bond works for M16, the British Secret Intelligence Service. Bond’s boss is M, who has been played by both male and female actors, the other character who has appeared in all Bond films is Q, the gadget inventor and yes there are a lot of spectacular gadgets anything from dangerous Bowler hats to tiny spy cameras have made their appearance. Wheelchairs, shoes, watches even fake nipples have all shown us that nothing is what it initially appears to be.
Well, someone who can outsmart even the most imaginative adversary has to be seen to drive an amazing vehicle. Bond is no different throughout the many movies he has driven mostly Aston Martin DB5. The agent’s car is never ordinary, it is enhanced by special effects expert John Stears who modified the DB5 used in Goldfinger. A car full of wonderful imaginative and effective gadgets that help him in his tasks to save the world from a terrible enemy.
Who will play the next James Bond? Are we ready for a female Bond??
Time will tell.
I don’t stop when I’m tired, I stop when I’m done.
